San Diego Comic-Con 2024 is officially underway. But with dozens upon dozens of panels to follow and several big names in attendance, it can be tricky to pinpoint exactly where you attention should lie.

That's where we come in. Across the next four days, GamesRadar+ is going to provide a snapshot of SDCC's biggest news and announcements from some of your favorite shows and movies.

Everything from Deadpool and Wolverine to The Rings of Power season 2 will have a presence this year, and we'll have the latest quotes from each major panel and will keep you on the pulse and part of the conversation from Thursday's initial wave of panels, through to Saturday's big hitters.

Before the panels kick off later today, let's take a look at some of the fun our two at the convention have had so far. On preview day, our two on the ground attended the Planet of the Apes exhibition where they got to see a range of props and costumes from the franchise. Watch the video below for more.

Lastly, our two attended the highly anticipated Deadpool and Wolverine panel, where stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman were there to celebrate their newest movie. The audience then got to watch the whole movie with the stars and director Shawn Levy (lucky). Our writers said, "Hugh Jackman was dancing along to key moments, and Reynolds and Levy embraced when the crowd went wild at one point too."

The cast was then joined on stage by some other Marvel characters who made major cameos in the movie. We won't spoil anything here in case you haven't seen the movie, but if you would like to see exactly who showed up, head over to our Twitter account. The Deadpool and Wolverine panel then wrapped with a crazy lights display outside. See below.

Then our two on the ground caught the vampy comedy What We Do in the Shadows panel, attended by stars Matt Berry, Mark Proksch, Kristen Schaal, and Kayvan Novak (via Zoom), alongside executive producer and showrunner Paul Simms, and director Kyle Newacheck. The team teased the show’s sixth and final season.

The audience was treated to the new season’s first episode, but the real highlight of the panel was Nandor actor Novak speaking in character the whole way through, "Does he know we wrapped?" said the other members of the panel.

Next, our two writers at Comic Con attended the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes panel where the team unveiled the VFX magic behind the movie. The panel was attended by stars Freya Allan, Owen Teague, Kevin Durand, and Peter Macon, alongside visualization supervisor Casey Pyke, visual effects supervisor Erik Winquist, and one of the film’s editors Dan Zimmerman.

The cast spoke about attending ape school, seeing their characters on screen for the first time, and even teased a potential sequel, with star Owen Teague saying "We'd all very much like to go back." Freya Allan also spoke on what we would want for her character Mae in a potential follow-up. Watch the video below for more.

Our two on the ground also got to see a clip of the making of the movie showing a side-by-side of the performance capture and the final cut of the face-off between Proximus Caesar, Noa, and Mae. "It really shows the amazing performance work that went into creating this film," said our writers.

Hello and welcome to the second official day of San Diego Comic-Con (or third if you were lucky enough to attend preview day on Wednesday. Before the fun picks back up later with the first panel of the day, The Boys at 10am PT, let's take a look back at everything that happened yesterday.

Starting with the Transformers One panel. After a short montage played of Transformers franchise history, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, and director Josh Cooley took to the stage, accompanied by stars Chris Hemsworth, Keegan-Michael Key, and Bryan-Tyree Henry.

The arrival of stars Chris Hemsworth, Keegan-Michael Key, and Bryan-Tyree Henry at the #TransformersOne panel earlier at #SDCC pic.twitter.com/S4lKYsKY3GJuly 25, 2024

Some highlights of the panel include: Lorenzo said the movie is "completely different," from the rest of the franchise, Cooley teased "an amazing, fantastic" Jon Hamm as Sentinel Prime, and Hemsworth paid tribute to the "iconic" Peter Cullen who originally voiced Optimus Prime.

The panel wrapped by presenting the movie's brand new trailer, which you can watch here.

Marvel's Thursday evening presence at Hall H ended with an amazing drone show over the skies of San Diego. Deadpool and Wolverine were the main focus of this, but the studio also teased the upcoming Fantastic Four movie with a logo and a new tease of big villain Galactus. The show ended with a message that they'll see us on Saturday... We can't wait!

The Deadpool and Wolverine panel ended with Kevin Feige, Ryan Reynolds, and Hugh Jackman all describing the experience of watching the movie with the Hall H crowd as one of the best viewings of their lives. Then there were a few special guests brought out in the final moments...

If you've seen the movie then you'll know there are some big Deadpool and Wolverine cameos. To see some of the stars behind those take the stage at Hall H, look at the Twitter thread below. Be warned though, this contains huge spoilers.

Now here's your big SPOILER WARNING! At the end of the #DeadpoolAndWolverine panel, the cast were joined by some very special guests...If you've seen the film and want to see their arrival on stage at #SDCC, watch it in the thread below! pic.twitter.com/g66463lj3cJuly 26, 2024

Eric Kripke says there'll be a few surprises at The Boys panel tomorrow...and we're so ready.

"This is gonna be really f*cking epic," he wrote on Twitter. The featured cast attending the panel includes Jack Quaid, Erin Moriarty, Laz Alonso, Karen f*ckuhara, Tomer Capone, Antony Starr, Chace Crawford, Jessie T. Usher, Nathan Mitchell, Valerie Curry, Susan Heyward, and Claudia Doumit.

We're anticipating a few announcements about season 5 – maybe a potential release date or new cast member...and maybe some Gen Z news as well. Get ready!

San Diego Comic-Con 2024 live coverage – All the news from SDCC 2024 as it happens (7)

Kevin Feige came out to introduce a special screening of Deadpool and Wolverine in Hall H alongside stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. Reynolds recalled his first-ever experience being in Hall H when the first Deadpool movie was released, calling it "the most memorable moment of my life." The first film was released in 2016, with Reynolds attending a special Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con to promote the film in July 2015.

Fans in Hall H will get to watch the film in full ahead of its July 26 release in the US, with a recap from the cast and director Shawn Levy. The FOMO is real.

And, with that, we're close to winding down on the first day on San Diego Comic-Con.

But we're not stopping just yet. Coming up shortly, we'll have quotes from the Transformers One cast and crew and much more besides.

Be sure to stick with GamesRadar+ throughout the weekend for all the latest news, insight, and announcements as they happen.

SDCC Friday preview

San Diego Comic-Con 2024 live coverage – All the news from SDCC 2024 as it happens (8)

So let's take a look ahead to tomorrow instead, shall we?

For my money, it's the most packed and exciting SDCC day. Yes, Marvel will grab all the headlines on Saturday but there's so much bang for your buck on Friday. The Boys, Doctor Who, The Lord of the Rings, and The Walking Dead all feature.

Me? I'm all about the Like a Dragon: Yakuza panel. Kiryu-chan is coming to Prime Video later this year and, not to be dramatic, it's probably going to be the best thing in recorded history.

  • The Boys:10am PT, Hall H- Eric Kripke and cast expected
  • The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power:11:05am-12:15pm PT, Hall H -Showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay and cast expected

So... about that Deadpool panel. Word on the ground is that it's actually a surprise screening of the movie. It was due to end at 7:30 PM PST but now we don't expect much in the way of news until those lucky souls in attendance have watched it. Let's hope they stay seated for the Deadpool and Wolverine post-credits scene.

45 minutes until Deadpool and Wolverine

San Diego Comic-Con 2024 live coverage – All the news from SDCC 2024 as it happens (9)

Cool your chimichangas. Deadpool and Wolverine's SDCC panel hasn't started yet, but it's not far away. Will we get more surprise admissions from Ryan Reynolds? He's already revealed that Deadpool and Wolverine originally had a different title that had to be changed at very short notice.

Expect plenty of laughs, lewd jokes, and perhaps a shock or two. You never know. LFG.

The Acolyte novel announced

San Diego Comic-Con 2024 live coverage – All the news from SDCC 2024 as it happens (10)

We all know what sort of reading material The Acolyte fans have been diving into lately. Once you've devoured all the fan-fic in sight, you'll be pleased to know that a novel set 10 years before The High Republic series has been announced.

The Acolyte: Wayseeker will be written by Justine Ireland and will focus on Vernestra Rwoh, played in the Disney Plus series by Rebecca Henderson.

Over in comics land, DC has announced during its Absolute Power panel that Mark Waid and Dan Mora (if there's one thing other than this live blog that you read today, make it Batman/Superman: World's Finest) will be helming a Justice League Unlimited series that begins later this year.

By now, you've probably been sticking with us for a good few hours. As a treat, here's a close-up snap of Transformers One stars Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, and Keegan-Michael Key.

Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles opening

The opening to Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has been released, and it promises to pick up where Mutant Mayhem left off.

The show is a spin-off of last year's hit animated movie and will be a bridge between it and the upcoming sequel. The main cast all return.

BioShock movie update

Would you kindly make a note of this update on Netflix's BioShock movie?

"The new regime has lowered the budgets,” producer Roy Lee said at Comic-Con in the past few hours (H/T Variety). "So we’re doing a much smaller version. … It’s going to be a more personal point of view, as opposed to a grander, big project."

Why isn't DC at SDCC?

San Diego Comic-Con 2024 live coverage – All the news from SDCC 2024 as it happens (14)

Superman may be close to wrapping, but it's not set to have any sort of presence at this year's Comic-Con.

According to DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran in a (now-deleted) article on TheWrap, it's simply "too soon" to bring anything to SDCC from the David Corenswet-starring DCU movie.

Percy Jackson casting news

We've been everywhere from Cybertron to Bikini Bottom so far at SDCC. Now it's time to scale the heights of Percy Jackson and The Olympians. Ahead of its second season, it's been announced that Daniel Diemer will be playing Cyclops, the half-brother of Walker Scobell's Percy Jackson. Filming on the new season is due to begin imminently.

Good news for I Am Legend fans: I Am Legend 2 is still very much in the works – and screenwriter Akiva Goldsman has promised "some good news shortly."

“We’re sequelizing the alternative cut, where Will lives and things don’t go well for humanity," said Goldsman, clearing up any confusion over those who remember Will Smith's character dying at the end of the 2007 blockbuster. Smith and Michael B. Jordan are set to star in the sequel as a duo, though a director has yet to be announced.

Continued Goldsman: "The world returns in a way that is kind of spectacular – an exciting playground for all of us – not your father’sI Am Legend."

Teacup teaser released

San Diego Comic-Con 2024 live coverage – All the news from SDCC 2024 as it happens (16)

Exciting news for horror fans: we've got the first teaser for Teacup, a James Wan-produced series heading to Peaco*ck on October 10. It's loosely based on Stinger, a 1988 sci-fi novel from Robert McCammon. It's been described by showrunner/executive producer Ian McCulloch as "a puzzle-box mystery, an edge-of-your-seat thriller, acan’t-but-mustlook horror story, a family drama, [and] a science fiction epic."

Some sequel talk now, but not the iron-clad announcement we were hoping for.

"We'd all very much like to go back," Owen Teague says when he's asked if a sequel is going to happen. Kevin Durand adds that he has got his fingers and toes crossed.

The beauty of SDCC is that anything could happen at any time. As if to prove our point, it's been revealed at a SpongeBob SquarePants panel that Mark Hamill will be voicing the Flying Dutchman in a new 2025 movie, titled Search for SquarePants.

The best VFX work should, in effect, be invisible and never once taking you out of the action. But we should always find time to recognize the amazing talent behind the scenes that helps bring characters to life, including on Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

To prove that point, attendees at the Planet of the Apes panel were treated to a side-by-side clip of the performance capture from its actors and the finished product.

We've just seen a clip of the making of #KingdomOfThePlanetOfTheApes showing a side by side of the performance capture and the final cut of the face-off between Proximus Caesar, Noa, and Mae. It really shows the amazing performance work that went into creating this film #SDCC pic.twitter.com/InZiYJKwtmJuly 25, 2024

From Cybertron to #SDCC, here’s your exclusive look at the Comic-Con poster for #TransformersOne. New trailer out now. pic.twitter.com/QFssSc3k6XJuly 25, 2024

Let's roll back just a second (see what we did there?) to catch you up on another minor detail from the Transformers panel: this incredible poster. '80s kids everywhere must be making space on their bedroom walls as we speak. You're never too old to have a giant picture of Optimus Prime watching you as you sleep, if you ask us.

Kevin Durand has already broken out his Proximus Caesar voice as he admits it is "hard to go back to being a human after being an ape." The person he says who has suffered the most? His wife...#KingdomOfThePlanetOfTheApes #SDCC pic.twitter.com/pwPMFnmeAYJuly 25, 2024

Kevin Durand was a highlight of the Planet of the Apes press tour, often regaling interviewers with tips on how best to embody an ape.

As the Proximus Caesar actor revealed at SDCC, though, it's probably not been a fun experience for his wife. We'll leave you to draw your own conclusions on that one.

Noa actor Owen Teague is at the Apes panel. He says it's been "a real honor to hopefully carry this franchise on for a few more movies." And a few more after that, if you don't mind. The most recent Apes movies have been some of Hollywood's most consistently great blockbusters and, dare we say it, still some of its most underappreciated...

The panels come thick and fast at SDCC. Case in point: a Planet of the Apes panel is just 15 minutes away.

Freya Allan (pictured above) has already teased to GamesRadar+ that she "knows things" when pressed on sequel talk. An announcement to a Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes follow-up could be imminent...

Spawn panel quotes

San Diego Comic-Con 2024 live coverage – All the news from SDCC 2024 as it happens (18)

Amid all of the Transformers excitement in Hall H, Spawn creator Todd McFarlane has been updating fans about the new King Spawn movie.

The key takeaway? The first draft of the "badass" script is officially finished, with a director set to join the project in the coming months.

McFarlane also implores that "we need to do R-Rated Hollywood comic movies", using the likes of Deadpool and Wolverine (whatever happened to that movie, anyway?) and Joker 2 as key touchstones for this Spawn project.

New Transformers One trailer is here

San Diego Comic-Con 2024 live coverage – All the news from SDCC 2024 as it happens (19)

The new Transformers One trailer has been released (click the link to watch the full video).

Some were maybe put off a little by the cheesy, slapstick tone of the initial trailer. This is a far cry from that reveal, with the focus instead being put on the cracks forming in the friendship between Optimus Prime and Megatron.

Transformers One trailer shown at panel

A new Transformers One trailer is currently being shown to lucky attendees at the panel. Let's hope it gets put online soon, because we need our Cybertron fix...

It's official: Steve Buscemi will play Starscream in Transformers One

It's now revealed that Steve Buscemi's role in Transformers One is Starscream, who is typically depicted as Megatron's right-hand man in the Decepticons. We're a long way from that, however, so it'll be intriguing to see how the pair join forces.

More tidbits from the panel now, including Chris Hemsworth paying tribute to the OG "iconic" Optimus Prime actor Peter Cullen. Hemsworth says he's not trying to imitate Cullen's work.

And, no, this isn't a mad fever dream: Keegan-Michael Key has just started singing the Transformers TV show theme to a faintly bemused audience. Watch it for yourself below!

Keegan-Michael Key tests the audience’s knowledge of the Transformers TV show theme #TransformersOne pic.twitter.com/xOTPttxnGQJuly 25, 2024

Bumblebee actor Keegan-Michael Key is in a typically chatty mood, opening up about the chance to turn his character into more of a motormouth. A slight left turn from previous versions of the character, then.

Alongside that, there's also the second clip of the panel. In it, Cybertron's fledgling heroes are gifted their cogs and the future of the planet is now in their hands.

Keegan Michael-Key says it was a joy to be able to make Bumblebee a motor-mouth given that he’s usually silent #TransformersOne #SDCC pic.twitter.com/WsiB2AYr9jJuly 25, 2024

The second clip sees our heroes get their cogs to unlock their “full potential” and “the ability to change their world”The future of Cybertron is now “in their hands” but their initial transformation doesn’t exactly go to plan #TransformersOne #SDCCJuly 25, 2024

Transformers One panel - Chris Hemsworth is here!

Now, a mandated appearance from a Hollywood Chris. It's Chris Hemsworth on stage and talking about how he and co-star Brian Tyree Henry spent several months together to help develop the friendship between the characters who will one day become Optimus Prime and Megatron.

This movie is going to make us cry, isn't it? A reminder, then, that the movie rolls out into cinemas on September 20 in the US and October 11 in the UK.

A quickfire series of updates from our correspondent in Hall H below, including an "exciting race sequence" and an introduction to Jon Hamm's Sentinel Prime. We're guessing he's not part of SterlingCooperCybertronPrice with an onimous name like that.

More from Josh Cooley now, who says Transformers was the reason he wanted to get into animation and that he's never seen a script like the one he has for Transformers One. High praise indeed.

First up, a Transformers One panel is kicking off Comic-Con's main festivities, complete with appearances from Chris Hemsworth (fresh off a fantastically evil turn in Furiosa) and Brian Tyree Henry, himself no stranger to franchises with both Eternals and the Spider-Verse trilogy.

That's kicking off at 11:45 AM Pacific/2:45 PM Eastern. That's 7:45 PM BST in the UK for the hardy folk across the pond staying up throughout the night. We salute you.

Plus, at the Apes installation, our duo got to meet Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes stars Freya Allan and Peter Macon and spoke about the movie getting a motion capture cut at the end of August, which shows the performances pre-VFX.

"I think it's really important because I think it helps people to really understand what performance capture is and what we were actually doing out there on location," Macon exclusively tells GamesRadar+. Allan is also really keen to do performance capture too, telling us: "Well, we've been speaking about me being an extra ape, I don't know if this is all just jokes but I would love that. What else happened on preview day? As well as Marvel exhibiting more Deadpool and Wolverine costumes including star Emma Corrin’s Cassandra Nova get-up, many other franchises also got in on the fun. Our two on the ground checked out Nickelodeon’s little corner of Comic-Con and got to meet Spongebob Squarepants, and elsewhere there was a Planet of the Apes experience taking place.

And, of course, it wouldn't be SDCC without a bit of sci-fi fun, so naturally there was an interactive Doctor Who station where guests could take a look inside the TARDIS from the series’ newest season. Stay tuned for more SDCC 2024 news here on the live blog and from our two writers at the convention this weekend.

Yesterday was preview day at SDCC 2024. What does that mean? Well, on Wednesday, July 24, a few lucky lot (including two of our own) had the chance to enter the convention a day early and check out some cool exhibitions.

There were costumes on display from Star Wars spin-off show The Acolyte, Marvel superheroes Deadpool and his new best bud Wolverine’s worn-out suits’ from the duo’s new movie Deadpool and Wolverine, and brand new super suits from the upcoming flick Captain America: Brave New World. Plus, our two on the ground got to see some brand-new Marvel artwork fit with characters such as Deadpool, X-Men ‘97 heroes, and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’s Miles Morales.

Our duo also spotted the new Superman logo, from James Gunn’s upcoming film, printed onto some fresh DC merch. See Total Film’s Twitter post below for more.

Well, preview day is over and now SDCC 2024 Comic-Con is officially underway! There is so much happening over the next few days including a highly intriguing Deadpool and Wolverine celebration which will be attended by stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman taking place this evening, also today, the Transformers One panel will kick off, which comes after the movie just received some amazing first reviews. And, of course, tomorrow here is The Boys panel — which we are hoping will shed some light on that rather bleak finale and give us a teaser or two for season 5.

Plus, don't forget that on Saturday, Marvel boss Kevin Feige will grace Hall H once again to deliver the highly anticipated Marvel panel, which we haven't seen at SDCC since 2022! For now, Feige is the only speaker announced, but we are expecting to see a few stars show up, maybe even a cast member or two from upcoming projects such as Fantastic Four or Thunderbolts*? Who knows what could happen!

Don't forget to keep checking on this live blog for regular updates from SDCC including the inside scoop from our two writers at the convention this weekend. But, for now, check out this post below from SDCC's official Twitter account celebrating the start of the world's best annual convention.

Are you all caught up on The Boys season 4? The cast, along with creator Eric Kripke, are set to lead a panel that'll hopefully provide some closure for that absolutely devastating finale – and pave the way for the fifth and finale season. You can also catch Jack Quaid running around the halls of San Diego Comic-Con, as The Boys actor is also doing a panel for My Adventures with Superman, Star Trek, and The Safe Man – the latter being a new Audible original co-starring Bosch's Titus Welliver.

It looks like DC fans are in luck: though James Gunn is unable to attend SDCC this year, DC Studios will still reportedly be making some announcements. According to Variety, “The Penguin (starring Colin Farrell) and the animated shows Harley Quinn and Kite Man: Hell Yeah! are all scheduled to appear. Gunn is currently busy filming Superman and Peacemaker season 2, but why would that stop him from Zoom-ing in with a cool update?

What can we expect from the first day of SDCC?

First up, from 11:45 AM PST on Thursday, is a Transformers: One panel. Stars Chris Hemsworth and Brian Tyree Henry will be in attendance and, if the early Transformers One reactions are any indication, it’s going to be a must watch instalment later this year. Expect more teases and tasters from the Cybertron-set origin tomorrow.

Planet of the Apes, Peaco*ck horror series Teacup, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are also a part of the opening salvo of panels this year.
