Manchester United have improved their squad well this year whereas Manchester City haven’t really. But I don’t think United are quite at the level to challenge yet.I think Liverpool and City will challenge for the top spot. Arsenal, United, Spurs and Villa will be competing for the top four. Arsenal need a clinical striker to compete again this year.

Chelseaare weighing up a move to re-sign Portugal forward Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid after talksfor the La Liga side's Spain youth international striker Samu Omorodion collapsed.

Multiple sources have described how talks over personal termsbetween the Blues and Omorodion, 20, collapsed last nightafter a £34.5m transfer fee was agreed last week.

There had always been caution at Stamford Bridge about the dealfor Omorodion while the Blues explore a move for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, with Romelu Lukaku moving the other way.

But although the deal isn't 100% off, negotiations havenot progressed as the various parties had hoped.

Chelsea are now considering a move for Felix, among a host ofother attacking options, after meeting with his agent Jorge Mendes whilecompleting a move for Wolves winger Pedro Neto on Sunday.

Felix, 24, is open to a return to Stamford Bridge, where heenjoyed his six months on loan during the 2022-23 season.

BBC Sport understand Atletico value Felix at around £43m.

Another aspect of the deal is that it would allow midfielderConor Gallagher to complete his move to Wanda Metropolitano for £34m, withAtletico needing to bank a major player sale to complete the move.

The La Liga club posted a photograph of Gallagher on their social media channels onSaturday, but stopped short of announcing the deal.

Atletico's £81.5m move for Manchester City forwardJulian Alvarez is still expected to go through regardless of the need to sell aplayer to sign Gallagher.

Tottenham Hotspur's Yves Bissouma has apologised for a "severe lack of judgement" after footage emerged appearing to show the midfielder inhaling laughing gas.

The 27-year-old posted a video of himself on social media on Saturday which showed him inhaling from a balloon.

Possession of nitrous oxide - also known as laughing gas or NOS - for recreational use has been a criminal offence in the United Kingdom since 2023 and can result in a two-year prison sentence.

“I want to apologise for these videos. This was a severe lack of judgment," said Bissouma.

"I understand how serious this is and the health risks involved, and I also take my responsibility as a footballer and role model very seriously.”

Bissouma, who joined Spurs from Brighton for £30m in 2022, had played for 45 minutes in Spurs' friendly defeat against Bayern Munich earlier on Saturday afternoon.

“We are looking into the events," a Tottenham spokesperson said.

"This will be dealt with as an internal matter.”

Tottenham's 2024-25 Premier League campaign begins with a trip to newly-promoted Leicester City on 19 August.

Kidderminster manager Phil Brown believes Manchester City will still finish 25 points better off than rivals Manchester United in the Premier League this season, despite Erik ten Hag's summer moves in the transfer market to bolster his squad.

FA Cup winners United finished eighth in the league last season, 31 points behind champions City.

"Manchester United at the moment, are not the kind of club that players are coming in and just genuinely hitting the ground running, they have to bed themselves in and take time," Brown told Football Daily.

"It was a real difficult season for [Manchester] United, but they finished off on a little bit of a high [winning the FA Cup], you have to say that.

"I didn’t see the Community Shield on Saturday, but I still say there will be 25 points difference between Manchester United and Manchester City next season."

Jack Grealish is a doubt for Manchester City’s opening PremierLeague game of the season against Chelsea on Sunday.

Grealish missed the Community Shield triumph over ManchesterUnited on Sunday after suffering a hamstring injury in training.

Although manager Pep Guardiola said it "isn’t a big problem",he acknowledged the 28-year-old could be out for three weeks or a month if heaggravated the problem during a match.

Grealish has played a full part in City’s pre-seasoncampaign after being overlooked by England for Euro 2024.

City entertain newly-promoted Ipswich at the Etihad Stadiumon 24 August after starting their title defence at Stamford Bridge.

“I don’t think it is much,” said Guardiola. “It was a blow butwe didn’t want to take a risk.

“Maybe he will be OK for Chelsea but if not, it will beIpswich.”

  12. Man City avenge FA Cup final defeat to Man Utd in Community Shieldpublished at 08:35 British Summer Time 12 August

    08:35 BST 12 August

Man City 1-1 Man Utd (6-7 pens)

Manchester City avenged their FA Cup final defeat by Manchester United as Pep Guardiola’s side triumphed 7-6 on penalties after the Community Shield had finished level at Wembley.

Bernardo Silva equalised for the Blues in the final minute but then had City’s first spot-kick saved by Andre Onana to give United the advantage.

However, Ederson saved Jadon Sancho’s effort before veteran defender Jonny Evans fired over, allowing Manuel Akanji to secure victory in this competition for the first time since 2019 in front of 78,416.

Alejandro Garnacho thought he had given United victory nine minutes from time when he collected possession at the end of a flowing move deep into the City half, instigated by skipper Bruno Fernandes, and then drove a low shot into the bottom corner.

Silva’s initial bad-tempered response to that was to barge into Garnacho long after he had moved the ball on to earn himself a booking.

The Portuguese’s next intervention was far more positive. As young Norwegian Oscar Bobb was spinning into space by the goal-line, Silva was pulling onto makeshift left-back Facundo Pellistri at the far post. Hardly the tallest, Silva had enough spring and intuition to climb above the Uruguayan and head in the equaliser at the far post.

It set up a climax that triggered elation in the City ranks and disappointment among the United support, many of whom left well before the trophy presentation.

Bayern Munich pair Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui are both on their way for medicals before completing their respective moves to Manchester United.

The pair will link up with Erik ten Hag's squad ahead of the new season, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka also having a medical today before completing his move to West Ham.

Ten Hag wanted to reinforce his defence, which suffered such acute injury problems last season.

He still didn't have Luke Shaw or Tyrrell Malacia available for the Community Shield and ended up with Facundo Pellistri, an attacking player for Uruguay, marking Bernardo Silva for Manchester City's late equaliser at Wembley.

Ten Hag said on Saturday that United would make an announcement when they had something to say. I don't think we are too far away.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot may not have made any signings yet but his first game at Anfield could not have gone much better, as they ran out 4-1 winners against Sevilla.

Slot, appointed as successor to Jurgen Klopp in the summer, went into the game against the La Liga side on the back of wins against Real Betis, Arsenal and Manchester United during a pre-season tour of the United States.

Diogo Jota gave Liverpool the lead when he struck a first-time left-foot volley from Trent Alexander-Arnold's pass.

Diaz scored two more for the home side before half-time after being set up by Jota and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Peque Fernandez pulled one back for Sevilla after the break before 17-year-old Liverpool substitute Trey Nyoni added his side's fourth with a smart finish.

Liverpool then played Las Palmas at Anfield in a behind-closed-doors friendly, with Darwin Nunez making his first pre-season outing since returning from Copa America duty with Uruguay.

Scotland left-back Andy Robertson, who also started against Las Palmas as he returned from injury, came closest to scoring when his shot hit the post in a goalless draw.

"But I am fully confident and I have trust in the club that they will do theright thing for us and get the best possible squad to compete in everycompetition and that is the main thing I am focusing on.
